30-day Returns on Standard Pieces
Each Maison Rivelle ring is made to order. The policy below explains what's returnable, what's a final sale, and what we cover for the life of the ring.
1. The 30-day return window (standard collection only)
The Vow and other published collection pieces, ordered in standard published specifications, are eligible for return within 30 days of delivery. The 30 days are calendar days, counted from the day the courier records signature delivery to your address.
Standard published specifications means: a published design, in a listed metal (14k yellow gold, 14k white gold, 14k rose gold, 18k yellow gold, 18k white gold, 18k rose gold, or platinum), in a published center stone size and grade, in a standard ring size (4 through 9 in quarter and half sizes), with no engraving, no modifications to the prong design, and no other changes from the published configuration.
If you've worn the ring during this window to test how it sits on your hand, to check the size, or to live with it for a few days before deciding, that's expected and won't affect your return. Rings are meant to be tested in real life. The 30-day window exists for that.
2. What's the final sale
The following are not eligible for return, but remain eligible for resizing or repair under the policies in Sections 6 and 7:
- Modified-spec collection pieces. Any piece from the published collection ordered with a non-standard configuration: non-listed metal alloy, non-listed center stone size, non-listed center stone grade, non-standard ring size (outside 4 through 9, or in an unusual quarter), engraving, or any modification to the prong design or band geometry. Modified-spec pieces are made to your specifications, and we cannot resell them in the published collection.
- Custom designs. Any piece resulting from the Customization process, where the design itself is custom to you. These are bespoke and cannot be resold.
- Engraved pieces. Engraving is permanent.
- Pieces showing damage from outside ordinary daily wear. Impact damage, attempted resizing by another jeweler, or exposure to chemicals or extreme heat.
We discuss the standard-spec versus modified-spec distinction with every customer at order. If you're unsure which tier your order falls into before placing it, the easiest way to check is to email hello@maisonrivelle.com. We confirm before you commit.
3. The return process
Step 1. Email through the Contact page within 30 days of delivery with your order number. The reason for the return is useful to us because we read all of it, but it isn't required.
Step 2. We email back within one business day with a prepaid FedEx return label and packaging instructions.
Step 3. Pack the ring in its original Maison Rivelle box with the original IGI or GIA certificate. The certificate must be included with the ring. A $150 fee applies if it's missing, which is the cost we pay the laboratory to regrade the stone and issue a replacement.
Step 4. Drop the package at any FedEx location, or schedule a pickup. The label is prepaid and the package is signed-for in transit, the same way it shipped to you.
Step 5. Once we receive the ring (typically 2 to 5 business days after you ship), we inspect it. Inspection takes up to 5 business days and includes:
- Verification that the diamond on the ring matches the diamond on the original certificate, against the laser inscription and the cert measurements
- Visual inspection for wear beyond what an in-home test would produce
- Confirmation of original packaging and certificate
Step 6. If the inspection passes, we initiate the refund. If the inspection raises questions, we email you within one business day with photos and a specific explanation before we make any decision about the refund. We don't process a partial refund without speaking to you first.
4. The refurbishing fee
A returned ring is inspected, recertified, refurbished (re-polished, prong re-tightened, cleaned), and then offered again as part of our published collection. An 8% refurbishing fee is deducted from the refund to cover this work, capped at $300.
The fee covers our actual operational costs of bringing a returned ring back to first-sale standard. We don't make money on returns. We're a small brand making to order, and absorbing the full cost of returns at our scale isn't sustainable. The fee is the difference between a return policy we can offer at all and one we couldn't.
If a return arrives in a condition we cannot refurbish (clear wear damage, missing components, attempted modifications by another jeweler), we will discuss with you before processing. In some cases, the refund may be reduced beyond the standard refurbishing fee. In others, the ring may not be eligible for a refund at all. We don't make this call quietly. You'll hear from us first, with photos and a specific explanation.
5. Refund timeline
Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Once we initiate the refund, the timing depends on your bank or card issuer:
- Credit and debit cards: 5 to 10 business days from initiation
- Bank transfers and direct payment: 5 to 10 business days from initiation
- Financing (Affirm, Klarna, etc.): handled directly by the financing provider, typically 7 to 14 days
We will email you on the day the refund is initiated.
6. Resizing within the first year
Every Maison Rivelle ring includes one complimentary resize within 12 months of delivery. This is separate from the return policy and applies to every ring we make: standard, modified-spec, and custom.
Resizing accounts for finger size changes that show up after a ring has been worn for a while: seasonal, hormonal, or weight-related. It's a normal part of owning a ring.
To request a resize, contact us through the Contact page with your order details. We send a prepaid label, do the work, and ship the ring back. Most resizes take 7 to 10 business days from the day we receive the ring. Some designs have specific structural considerations (eternity bands and the locked-pair mechanism on The Vow at certain configurations), and we walk every customer through them.
After the first resize, or after the 12-month window, additional resizes are available under our Care & Service policy at our standard service rate.
7. The lifetime manufacturing warranty
Every Maison Rivelle ring is covered by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. This is separate from returns and from resizing, and applies to every ring we make: standard, modified-spec, and custom.
The warranty covers structural defects in the manufacturing of the ring: loose stones (not damaged stones), prong failures that aren't caused by impact, settings that loosen over time without an external cause, and similar issues attributable to how the ring was made.
The warranty does not cover:
- Wear and tear from ordinary daily use
- Impact damage, accidents, or losses
- Modifications by another jeweler, which void the warranty
- Stone damage from sources outside the manufacturing process
If you're unsure whether something is a manufacturing defect or ordinary wear, please reach out. Most of the time, we just take the ring back and look at it. If it's covered, we cover both the work and the shipping in both directions.
8. International orders
The return process described above applies to orders within the United States and Canada.
For international orders shipped on a case-by-case basis (per the Shipping Policy, Section 1), the return process is the same in substance, but the prepaid label and the shipping cost recovery work differently depending on destination country and customs. We work this out with you at the time of order; nothing in this policy changes for international customers, but the logistics may. We discuss it clearly before any international order ships.
9. Repeat returns and pattern abuse
If we identify a pattern of returns that is clearly abusive (multiple returns from the same customer, returns of pieces that don't match what shipped, evidence of intentional damage to obtain a refund, or any practice that other jewelry retailers in our category also identify as abuse), we reserve the right to refuse the return and decline future orders.
We don't expect this to come up. Most returns are honest, and we treat them as such. The clause exists to protect both the customers who don't abuse the policy and us.
10. A note on returns
We don't think a return is a failure. Engagement rings are an unusual purchase. The person buying often isn't the person wearing. The ring is sometimes a surprise. The actual feel of a ring on a hand is impossible to predict from a photo. The 30-day window exists so that decision can be made for real, on a real hand, in real life.
The reason the policy is detailed, and the reason there is a refurbishing fee on returns, is the same reason every Maison Rivelle ring is made to order: we're a small brand operating at a small scale. Each ring takes weeks to make. Each return is real work. Building a return policy that's both fair and sustainable is part of how we operate honestly.
If something has gone wrong, the fastest way to fix it is to reach a person directly. Email through the Contact page, or hello@maisonrivelle.com.
